The story of KORD began during the height of the pandemic when I began to repurpose and rework garments from my previous original ready-to-wear line. I soon discovered it blended both my artistic sensibilities and technical skills as a fashion designer.
After graduating from the Drawing and Painting Department at the Ontario College or Art & Design in Toronto in the early aughts, I studied Fashion Techniques and Design at George Brown College.
Soon after completing my studies, I began an eponymous line inspired by urban bicycle commuters that focused on style over function.
Untethered by my typical daily structure in 2020, I began to return to my roots as an artist and started to create one of a kind garments that melded textures, tones and styles. I was reminded of my love of collage and mixed media. And so I began cutting up and fusing vintage garments and fabrics with new materials and contemporary pieces. I mostly loved the aesthetic of combining denim with wools, plaid, vintage army or marine-inspired elements. A study in contrasts, the pieces played with old and new, vintage and contemporary, high and low, raw and polished, casual and structured.
Every garment is carefully assembled and discerningly composed, making each one a truly singular and standout piece.
